Crazy silly birds....

Alright, I know it's not super close or anything special ... but look closely at the bottom of the picture, about 3/4's of the way to the right, right near that tiny tuft of green, see the brown spot? Yep, just there is a killdeer, sitting on her nest ....

Notice that the place they have chosen appears to be a 'traveled portion' of something? Oh ya... at least it's not the road. It's my parents driveway. Halfway down the driveway, right smack in the bloody middle of it..... sigh.

Killdeer....Crazy Birds!!!

My gawd...mother nature gave these silly birds one of the most comical mimics to protect thier nest and young.
Should you happen to come near one's nest area, they tend to scream lots to get your attention, while flopping along the ground, puffed up, and wing outstretched, as if it's broken and they are an easy prey......" come on over here, see me...ya...over here, I'm easy to get...oh wait, I'll run a few steps...then flounder again....cry and shriek, flip my wing out, play hurt...."
... all the while, they are leading you away from the nest area.
In this case, you see the bird is standing over her eggs, she's only just puffed out, but not moving one inch. I think that's cause she knows I already know where the nest is....
Notice the gravel....ya, I do too, every single time I drive in my folks driveway.
This dingbat pair has chosen the middle of my folks driveway as thier 'ideal camoflage location' for thier eggs.....so we have to watch so carefully as we come in or out of the drive, that we don't run over the running bird. The eggs are safe as they are in the dead centre, the part you don't drive on. But geeezzzz....come on you guys....there's other gravel around here, go someplace else!

Sigh.....
oh well, I got lots of sneaky pic's of the 2 parents as well as the egg's unattended too.
Enjoy this close close-up of one of the parents. The egg's, hard to see, but there are 4.
Ain't life interesting?? heheheheh

That's a Wrap....oops, nope, that's Tying Knots!

Learning how to tie knots is easy, well fairly easy.

Learning how to tie springs down with those knots isn't as easy as you might suppose.

Spiderman would be proud, I hope!!

....and some way to go yet before this chair is completely rebuilt. It's an instock, not a customer's custom ordered job. So, we work on it, when we have spare time....which isn't that often these days.
Ah well, will be back soon for the next step. Will slowly show it off as it passes thru it's phases.

CityScape, on the Edge of Night

Took a few minutes out of the night (watching Transformers on Westboro beach Friday night), to scoot out of range and catch a few shots of the city nearby.
Wondering why the light reflection is bent, but its probably due to current bending the light as it moves the water...
Kinda messes a bit with your eyeballs, but I liked it.

Taken at M.O.B July 27/08

M.O.B. July 27/08, Young Engineer's....

These two cuties were right in front of us, enjoying the afternoon at the beach as much as waiting for the show to start!

"Just a wee bit more....hang on....alright, that looks about perfect!"

Now, flip it over...quick!

The Sun's Shadow's

Needless to say the title kindof tells you what's up here. I enjoy catching the shadows of bright objects and have one in my older posts that looks not unlike a hand reaching upwards....

This is a randon shot (see below) on the way to the camp.

I liked the rays of light and dark from around the one wee little cloud.

Summer Sun, Peekaboo....

Well, well, well..... and please don't think I 'planned' this one with any sense of precision or organization.....although I really like the fact that the sun is peeking thru the 2 treetops here.....

It's completely random! Yes it is.

My camera has a feature to take several shots in a second or two. I set it on highspeed (it takes 5 pics in a matter of splitting time)...and what better to use as your flying down the highway on the way to a night away from home.

I cropped out the antenna of the truck, and the only planning involved was to pick a section to snap along, that had no hydro lines on my side of the road! LOLOL

Sometimes you never know what you will have captured til afterwards....just let er fly....

Now That's a 'Summer Sky' !!!

On the way up to the Camp near Lavant Station on Saturday afternoon....a more perfect day you couldn't have ordered up on a layaway plan!

I'm so glad my camera's with me everywhere I go these days. Always something to snap a few pic's at.

A Rose, by any other Name....

.... would smell as sweet.

Mother's Day, brought me to be the proud recipient of a gorgeous bundle of soft yellow roses (my favorite colour!) They sweetened the whole house with their glory for ages before they finally fell.

Of course I had to get the camera out.... and this is the way my hubby see's em....he's fully colour blind, so he see's no colour's at all.

Just plain and simple, black and white.

Night 'Light' Suprise

Finally, a storm under cover of darkness.

Set the camera on its 'pod, set up the timer and long exposure, opened the window, removed the screen (mosquitos..stay outside)....and started snapping.

With the long exposure's you can't tell if you'll catch something or not, but in one of my attempts last night, I caught a bolt!
Damn the tree in the way, but I had no choice.
Ah well, there will be plenty more storms this season, cross fingers for night ones. Bolts show so much more dramatically against the dark sky.
There will be more, but for now, here's my first night lightening.

Thundering Horde..........

This storm whipped thru town yesterday, and began dropping the wet stuff about 3 pm at my work. Boy oh boy, it came down hard too!

This is the rear step, water just pouring off the roof and the sky.

Can you believe it, Kevin wanted me to go get his jacket in his car that he left out there....ya, the red car, just 5 ft from me, you can just see the edge of the wheels.....

Not on your life buddy!! Get it yourself..... Did you SEE the rain out there? LOLOL

Am I Seeing Double?

Oh ya....hehehehe I love rainbows! This time of the season is ripe to capture them. Thunderstorms are common, and the end of the day ones produce amazing rainbows on the eastern sky as the sun is heading away in the west. This one shows both (copies of each other). The first (lower) is brighter, the second (upper) is fainter and is a perfect mirror of the colours of the original.
I can see a rainbow.....I can see a rainbow~~!!!!
How did that song go...red and yellow and pink and green, orange and purple and blue....I can see a rainbow!

First touch.... my dad with the colt.

Up we go, bright and early, Tuesday morning, to see the new arrivals. The barn people population has grown by 2 over night! Mandy and Sasha have both had thier foals. We now have a colt and a filly. Now, just waiting on 'fancy pants' aka Angel, (the llama) to have her wee one later this summer and that's all the babies to come this year!

Its amazing, no matter how many times you see it, the wonder at new life is still just as amazing as it was the last time. I could watch them all day...discover new things, stretch out and run, sleep in the sun....whatever they do is just precious.

She has no name yet...but learning all about the world...

This is Sasha's wee lady. She's got a bit of a squiggle in the middle of her forehead. Caught her with her tongue out...not sure how, but it just happened that way....hehehe
1 day old.

Mama on the run...

Mandy and her little one running back up to the barn...coming right at me! She's got the wee colt. He's so cute!

Golden Glory

Snuggled in my back garden, beautiful blooms burst forth in the past few days. Despite the Ontario 'Air Force' arriving recently (mmmfff...giggle...them's dragon flies....hehehe) the bug's that bite are still pretty thick and nasty. Needless to say, my stroll thru the garden's was more a quick march...check out the scenery, and get the heck inside.
